Job Duties:
The work for this position includes duties related to greenhouse tomato production and packing operations, including: harvesting tomatoes according to quality standards; plant training (lowering plants and winding around support strings); pruning and plant maintenance; leaf removal; placing and managing growing substrate bags; general crop care activities; cleaning and maintaining greenhouse hygiene; operating greenhouse carts and equipment safely; sorting tomatoes by size, color, and quality; packing tomatoes into clamshells, boxes, and bulk bins; operating packaging equipment and scales; quality inspection of products; labeling packages according to customer requirements; stacking and organizing packed products; maintaining cleanliness in the packing area; and following food safety, hygiene, and safety protocols and instructions from supervisors. Workers must be able to perform repetitive tasks, work in variable temperatures (greenhouse: hot/humid; packing area: 50-60°F), stand for extended periods, and lift up to 50 lbs. 2 months experience is required; on-the-job training will be provided. Special Requirements:
The employer may terminate the worker with notification to the Employment Service if the worker: (a) refuses without justified cause to perform work for which the worker was recruited and hired; (b) commits serious acts of misconduct; or (c) fails, after completing any training or break-in period, to reach production standards when production standards are applicable. The employer may discipline the worker including requiring the worker to leave (without pay) the field for a period determined by the foreman, unpaid suspension from employment for up to three days, or termination of employment. Workers will be terminated or disciplined for failure to follow work rules.
